Terms of Use

Effective date: 12 October 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and us for using dotdotdot. Please read them: by using the website or the app you accept them.

1. About these terms

dotdotdot (the website at dotdotdot.batuhan.org and the iOS app “dotdotdot - Text Story Maker”) is provided by Batuhan KATIRCI, Istanbul, Türkiye (“we”, “us”). These Terms of Use apply to both. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.

If you got the app from the App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA) also applies. These terms add to it; if they conflict about the app, the standard EULA wins.

2. Your licence to use dotdotdot

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use the website and the app for your own creative projects, including videos you publish on social media, as long as you follow these terms. You may not resell the service, copy or reverse-engineer the app beyond what the law allows, overload or attack our servers, get around plan limits or use automated means to abuse the service.

3. Fiction, not deception: acceptable use

dotdotdot is a creative tool for fiction, parody and storytelling. The videos look like real screen recordings, so how you use them matters. You must not use dotdotdot to:

  • deceive people in a way that can harm them, such as making fake “evidence” of a conversation, fake receipts or confessions, or misinformation presented as real;
  • defraud anyone, for example in scams, phishing or extortion;
  • harass, bully, threaten or defame anyone, or expose someone’s private information;
  • impersonate real people or organisations in a misleading way, or use a real person’s name, photo or identity without the right to do so;
  • infringe the rights of others, including copyright, trademarks, privacy and personality rights (for example photos or music you don’t have the right to use);
  • use AI voices to imitate a real person without their consent, to clone someone else’s voice (for example by re-voicing their recording), or to deceive, defraud or harass anyone with a generated voice, such as a fake voice message presented as real;
  • create or share content that is illegal, sexually exploits minors, promotes violence or hatred, or breaks the rules of the platforms where you post it.

When you publish a video that might be taken as real, make clear that it is fiction. We may remove share links and suspend access to features that are used against these rules. To report a shared story, use the support page.

4. Your content

You own what you create. Your scripts, stories, photos, sounds and the videos you make are yours (or your licensors’), and you are responsible for them, including having the rights to everything you add.

So that we can run the service, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and transmit your content, only as needed to provide the features you use: cloud backup, share links, the AI assistant and AI voices. When you share a story, you also allow anyone with the link to watch it, download its video and copy it into their own projects. This licence ends when you delete the content or stop sharing it, except for copies others already made of a story you shared.

5. The AI assistant and AI voices

The AI assistant (on paid plans) generates text and edits automatically, with an AI model run by a third party (see the Privacy Policy). Its output:

  • may be inaccurate, unexpected, inappropriate or similar to content made for other people;
  • is not checked by us, and is not advice of any kind;
  • is yours to review, change and use responsibly. You are responsible for what you publish, as with anything else you create.

The assistant has daily usage limits that depend on your plan, and we may change the model behind it. We may limit or suspend the assistant to protect the service, for example if it is used to create content against section 3.

AI voices turn text, or a recording you choose, into speech generated by a third party, ElevenLabs (see the Privacy Policy). You choose the voice from our voice directory; designing a voice of your own is not offered. The audio they make is AI-generated: it isn’t a recording of a real person, even when it sounds like one. You are responsible for how you use it, and for having the right to use any recording you re-voice. We may change or remove voices, pause AI voices, and limit or suspend them for accounts that use them against section 3.

6. Plans, subscriptions and purchases

The website is free. The iOS app has a free plan with limits (see the support page) and paid plans, bought in the app through Apple’s App Store:

  • Plus and Pro, each as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription;
  • Lifetime, a one-time purchase that unlocks the Pro features with no subscription;
  • credit packs for AI voices, one-time purchases (section 7).

Prices, and what each plan includes, are shown in the app before you buy.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends, at the price of your plan.
  • Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings (on iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions) after purchase. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel a subscription.
  • Free trial: Pro Yearly comes with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. If you don’t cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it becomes a paid yearly subscription. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies; you can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves.
  • Restore your purchases on a new device from the paywall (Restore), with the same Apple ID.

We may change plans, features and prices in the future. Price changes for subscriptions follow Apple’s rules, including asking for your consent where required, and never apply to a period you already paid for.

7. Credits

AI voices cost credits: making a clip from text and re-voicing a recording each take some, depending on the length and the voice. Credits for a request that fails are given back automatically. There is also a daily limit per account.

  • Monthly credits: Plus includes 100 credits and Pro (and Lifetime) 400 credits each period: a month, or the billing period of a monthly subscription. They are reset at the start of each period, and unused monthly credits don’t roll over. The free plan has none. A plan’s monthly credits go to one account per period, even when the purchase is used on several accounts.
  • Credit packs are one-time purchases in the App Store (consumables), on any plan. Purchased credits don’t expire. Monthly credits are spent first. We keep a record of your purchases and spends, linked to your account.
  • Refunds of credit packs are handled by Apple under its policies (reportaproblem.apple.com). When Apple refunds a pack, its credits are removed from your balance, even if you have spent them, so the balance can go below zero; you can’t spend credits until it is back above zero.
  • No cash value: credits are not money. They can only be used for AI voices in dotdotdot, can’t be exchanged for cash, sold or transferred to another account or person.
  • Tied to your account: credits belong to the app account they were bought with, not to your Apple ID. Restoring purchases doesn’t bring them back; signing in to the same account does, so link your account with Apple to keep them on a new phone. Deleting your account deletes its credits, including purchased ones, and they can’t be restored.

We may change how many credits a request costs and how many credits a plan includes. Changes don’t remove credits you already have.

8. Not affiliated with Apple, Meta or WhatsApp

dotdotdot is an independent product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc., Meta Platforms, Inc. or WhatsApp LLC. iMessage, iPhone and Apple are trademarks of Apple Inc.; WhatsApp is a trademark of WhatsApp LLC. Other names are trademarks of their owners. They are used only to describe the look the app recreates for fiction and parody.

9. Apple

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms as they relate to the app and may enforce them against you.

10. Changes and availability

We work to keep dotdotdot running well, but we may change, add or remove features, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We don’t promise that share links or backups will be available forever; keep your own copies of the videos that matter to you. We won’t materially reduce the features of a paid plan during a period you already paid for.

11. Disclaimer

To the extent the law allows, dotdotdot is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. This doesn’t limit rights you have as a consumer that can’t be limited by contract.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of dotdotdot or content made with it. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, or any liability that can’t be limited by law.

You are responsible for your use of dotdotdot and the content you create and share with it, and you agree to cover our costs from claims by others that result from your breaking these terms or the law.

13. Ending these terms

You can stop using dotdotdot at any time and delete your account in the app (Settings › Account & backup › Delete account). We may suspend or end your access, remove content or share links, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms or the law, or if we have to stop providing the service. Sections 4 (for content already shared), 5, 8, 11, 12 and 14 continue to apply after the terms end.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye. The courts and enforcement offices of Istanbul have jurisdiction over disputes. If you are a consumer, this doesn’t take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or your right to go to the consumer arbitration committees and consumer courts that the law gives you.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the effective date at the top, and tell you in the app or on the website before an important change takes effect. If you keep using dotdotdot after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
